Notice the ground, with the stone sidewalk & road. This type of walkway and/or road is very common here. It's been around for so long, especially in the downtown or small town central areas. I've heard that it works well in the rain--since it doesn't get full of water. The rain soaks into the ground, between the stones.

The fountain next to the mural from above, a few streets away from the AirBnB I stayed at about half an hour from Lisbon.
